Kajol Dalgir claimed three wickets as the University of the West Indies Women’s Cricket Club (UWI WCC) sealed a dominant eight-wicket win against Players Sports Club (SC) in the lone Premiership Division round two match played in the T&T Women’s Cricket Association’s (TTWCA) 50 Overs League on Sunday (January 19).
Playing at the UWI South Field in St Augustine, the unbeatean UWI WCC bowled out Players SC for 90 in 47.5 overs, with Dalgir being the pick of the bowlers with 3-17 while former West Indies allrounder Lee Ann Kirby (2-5) and another former national cricketer Kamara Ragoobar (2-7), claimed two wickets each.
Sumintra Ramsawak with 31, was the leading batter for Players SC, who sank to its second straight loss. Last week in the opening round, Players SC was beaten by Caldrac Achievers by 10 wickets.
UWI WCC reached 92/2 in reply in just 14.5 overs, with former West Indies A team captain Reniece Boyce making 38, Kirby 26 not out and Victoria Madoo 10.
Players SC’s bowling was led by Nadia Mohammed (1-19) and Mary Lofton (1-31), each with one wicket.
It was the second win for UWI WCC, who opened with an eight-wicket win over Technocrats.
Technocrats were hoping to bounce back from that loss against Hibiscus Ladies at the Buggy Haynes Ground in Tacarigua but that match was abandoned at the start of the second innings. Hibiscus Ladies batted first and posted 124/6 in a match shortened to 35 overs. Technocrats’ reply was cut short at 15 without loss when the rain came.
The other match at Powergen Sports Ground in Penal between Powergen Women and Caldrac Achievers was abandoned without a ball being bowled also due to rain.
In the Championship Division, two of the three matches scheduled were played.
Veteran Brenda Solozano and allrounder Ishana Dass fuelled the Brenda Solozano Cricket Academy (BSCA), each claiming four wickets in a comfortable six-wicket win over North Zone at the Brian Lara Recreation Ground, Sam Boucard Road in Santa Cruz in the 30-Over League.
North Zone batted first and was all out for 119 in 26.4 overs. Naomi Ali and Sara Sahadath tried their best to get runs on the board, scoring 21 and 16, respectively, but Solozana, a former West Indies player, and Dass showed no mercy.
Solozano claimed 4-13 and Dass 4-17. The former then picked up the bat to lead BSCA’s reply with an unbeaten 27. Arabella Phillip was second-best with 12.
Jessica Davis led North Zone’s bowling attack with 3-16 in a losing effort.
In the other match played, Sital Youngsters completed their second win of the season, defeating Moses Lendore Cricket Academy (MLCA) by 10 wickets.
