Ka­jol Dal­gir claimed three wick­ets as the Uni­ver­si­ty of the West In­dies Women’s Crick­et Club (UWI WCC) sealed a dom­i­nant eight-wick­et win against Play­ers Sports Club (SC) in the lone Pre­mier­ship Di­vi­sion round two match played in the T&T Women’s Crick­et As­so­ci­a­tion’s (TTWCA) 50 Overs League on Sun­day (Jan­u­ary 19).

Play­ing at the UWI South Field in St Au­gus­tine, the un­beat­ean UWI WCC bowled out Play­ers SC for 90 in 47.5 overs, with Dal­gir be­ing the pick of the bowlers with 3-17 while for­mer West In­dies all­rounder Lee Ann Kir­by (2-5) and an­oth­er for­mer na­tion­al crick­eter Ka­ma­ra Ra­goo­bar (2-7), claimed two wick­ets each.

Sum­intra Ram­sawak with 31, was the lead­ing bat­ter for Play­ers SC, who sank to its sec­ond straight loss. Last week in the open­ing round, Play­ers SC was beat­en by Cal­drac Achiev­ers by 10 wick­ets.

UWI WCC reached 92/2 in re­ply in just 14.5 overs, with for­mer West In­dies A team cap­tain Re­niece Boyce mak­ing 38, Kir­by 26 not out and Vic­to­ria Madoo 10.

Play­ers SC’s bowl­ing was led by Na­dia Mo­hammed (1-19) and Mary Lofton (1-31), each with one wick­et.

It was the sec­ond win for UWI WCC, who opened with an eight-wick­et win over Tech­nocrats.

Tech­nocrats were hop­ing to bounce back from that loss against Hi­bis­cus Ladies at the Bug­gy Haynes Ground in Tacarigua but that match was aban­doned at the start of the sec­ond in­nings. Hi­bis­cus Ladies bat­ted first and post­ed 124/6 in a match short­ened to 35 overs. Tech­nocrats’ re­ply was cut short at 15 with­out loss when the rain came.

The oth­er match at Pow­er­gen Sports Ground in Pe­nal be­tween Pow­er­gen Women and Cal­drac Achiev­ers was aban­doned with­out a ball be­ing bowled al­so due to rain.

In the Cham­pi­onship Di­vi­sion, two of the three match­es sched­uled were played.

Vet­er­an Bren­da Solozano and all­rounder Is­hana Dass fu­elled the Bren­da Solozano Crick­et Acad­e­my (BSCA), each claim­ing four wick­ets in a com­fort­able six-wick­et win over North Zone at the Bri­an Lara Recre­ation Ground, Sam Bou­card Road in San­ta Cruz in the 30-Over League.

North Zone bat­ted first and was all out for 119 in 26.4 overs. Nao­mi Ali and Sara Sa­ha­dath tried their best to get runs on the board, scor­ing 21 and 16, re­spec­tive­ly, but Solozana, a for­mer West In­dies play­er, and Dass showed no mer­cy.

Solozano claimed 4-13 and Dass 4-17. The for­mer then picked up the bat to lead BSCA’s re­ply with an un­beat­en 27. Ara­bel­la Phillip was sec­ond-best with 12.

Jes­si­ca Davis led North Zone’s bowl­ing at­tack with 3-16 in a los­ing ef­fort.

In the oth­er match played, Sital Young­sters com­plet­ed their sec­ond win of the sea­son, de­feat­ing Moses Lendore Crick­et Acad­e­my (ML­CA) by 10 wick­ets.

The Crick­et Lovers/Vic­to­ria SC match at Daren Gan­ga Recre­ation Ground in Bar­rack­pore was al­so aban­doned due to rain in the first in­nings.
