T&T’s youth cricketers made it two out of two in the Cricket West Indies (CWI) Regional Under-15 Championship yesterday when they whipped the Leeward Islands by 182 runs. It was an even better performance than that of the victory they registered against Barbados the day before.
T&T was asked to bat first after the Leewards won the toss. They struggled early in the innings, being reduced to 48 for four just after 10 overs. However, the pair of Kavir Boodoosingh and Kyle Ramdoo came together in a solid 64-run partnership.
Boodoosingh struck 42 runs from 69 balls, which included three boundaries. Ramdoo, on the other hand, was faster in scoring 47 runs from the same number of balls. They took the score to 112 for five before Boodoosingh was out.
However, T&T continued to motor along with Joshua Davis joining Ramdoo. Both batsmen continued to take the attack to the Leewards, putting on a further 49 runs. Davis hit 51 runs from 71 balls, which included six fours before he was run out. However, the real damage came from Orlando James, who pummeled 78 runs from 57 balls. He hit nine boundaries and a six in a knock that lasted just over an hour.
With James’ blitz, T&T was able to reach 295 for seven from 50 overs. After striking a half-century with the bat, Davis then returned to destroy the Leewards with the ball. He left the batsmen in tatters, finishing with figures of 9.2-1-20-5. The Leewards was bowled out for a mere 113 runs in 33.2 overs. It means T&T’s perfect start to the tournament continues.
In the other matches, the Windward Islands made light work of Jamaica, bowling them out for just 97 runs and winning by five wickets at Coolidge Cricket Grounds. Meanwhile, Guyana fell short against Barbados at the Vivian Richards Cricket Ground.
The third round of matches takes place tomorrow with T&T against Jamaica.
