Jordane Dookie created a major upset to be crowned the women’s singles champion of the Sunshine Snacks Tranquillity Open final at the Victoria Avenue courts on Saturday.
Meanwhile, a clearly dominant Joseph Cadogan, who has proven to be a cut above the rest in the local tennis, secured the men’s singles title.
Fifteen-year-old Dookie, who went into the match as the third-ranked player, used the experience garnered from her many international outings, to upset the top-seeded Ella Carrington in straight sets, 6-1, 6-3.
The win ensured Dookie a clean sweep of the titles, having won the women’s doubles with Cameron Wong last week, as well as the mixed doubles with former national standout Shane Stone.
Cadogan, who is based in the United States, took an early first-set advantage, 6-1 against sixth-ranked Richard Chung in the final and later sealed the win with a 6-2 triumph in the second set on court two.
The veterans’ men’s singles was also decided yesterday, with second-ranked Richard Mc Letchie defeating Brian Jackson in straight sets, 6-2, 6-3, on court three.
