Crowd favourites, Drifters cap­tured the $8,000 Ty­ro Sports Club 45 and Over (10 overs) Wind­ball League ti­tle when they de­feat­ed fierce ri­val Ansa Mo­tors Team An­thrax by six wick­ets in the 'Big Six' fi­nal at the Gab­ba Ground, Bourg Mu­la­tresse, Low­er San­ta Cruz on Sun­day.

Bat­ting first, reg­u­lar-sea­son ta­ble-top­pers Ansa Mo­tors Team An­thrax were lim­it­ed to a mod­est 55 runs for loss of sev­en wick­ets from their ten overs at the crease with Ear­lan Williams hit­ting a top score of 15 runs while Mar­lon Him bagged two wick­ets for four runs from his two overs and Andy Ruiz, one wick­et for eight runs.

In their run chase, Mon­te­co Drifters got to their tar­get of 60 for the loss of four wick­ets with one over re­main­ing de­spite the su­perb bowl­ing fig­ures of three wick­ets for six runs from An­to­nio Sam­lal.

The win for Drifters over Team An­thrax in the fi­nal was the sec­ond in suc­ces­sion for the sea­son af­ter los­ing their round-robin league de­cider.

Team An­thrax snapped up the $2,000 reg­u­lar-sea­son win­ner’s prize when they de­feat­ed Mon­te­co Drifters in the top-of-the-ta­ble clash by 22 runs to end the 12-team round-robin phase with a per­fect record of 11 wins from as many match­es for a max­i­mum of 33 points, while Mon­te­co Drifters end­ed in the sec­ond spot with a 10-1 record and 30 points.

How­ev­er, when both teams faced off in the ‘Big Six’ semi­fi­nals, ANSA Mo­tors Team An­thrax again had first turn at the crease and amassed a chal­leng­ing to­tal of 93 runs for the loss of six wick­ets, on­ly for Drifters to reach their tar­get 97 for the loss of on­ly one wick­et.

For the ti­tle win, Drifters took home $8,000, while Team An­thrax got $3,000, and in the third placed bat­tle Bluffuzz beat Over­com­ers by 18 runs to take away $1,700 to their op­po­nents $1,500.
