T&T Se­nior Team as­sis­tant coach and head coach of the Elite Un­der-15 De­vel­op­ment pro­gramme Stu­art Charles Fevri­er is ea­ger­ly look­ing for­ward to the open­ing of the TTFA Home of Foot­ball Train­ing Cen­tre which he sees as a ma­jor boost for foot­ball and the dawn of a new era for all na­tion­al teams and of­fi­cials in­volved in lo­cal foot­ball.

Fevri­er has been con­duct­ing train­ing ses­sions with the Un­der-15 boy's team at the Home of Foot­ball train­ing pitch three days week­ly and held his fi­nal ses­sion for the year on Sun­day. The ses­sions will re­sume in Jan­u­ary. He is hop­ing the ad­di­tion of the play­er ac­com­mo­da­tion ho­tel and oth­er re­lat­ed foot­ball de­vel­op­ment fa­cil­i­ties will in­spire the young­sters to try and achieve even more in 2019.

“A home of foot­ball is im­por­tant. Every de­vel­oped foot­ball coun­try has a train­ing cen­tre. Now you can have pro­grammes for na­tion­al teams, coach­es, ad­min­is­tra­tors and ref­er­ees so it takes care of all the dif­fer­ent ar­eas,” Fevri­er told TTFA Me­dia.

“What I Would like to see is more de­vel­op­ment pro­grammes es­pe­cial­ly for younger play­ers and more na­tion­al team pro­grammes for all our na­tion­al teams and the Home of Foot­ball can make this pos­si­ble,” he added.

Fevri­er was a con­trib­u­tor at the TTFA B Li­cense course last week be­ing con­duct­ed by An­ton Corneal and he was im­pressed with the ap­proach, which he an­tic­i­pates will move to greater heights through ac­cess to bet­ter in­fra­struc­ture next year.

“That’s im­por­tant for us to have these coach­ing cours­es and ac­cess to the dif­fer­ent types of fa­cil­i­ties as it re­lates to foot­ball de­vel­op­ment. In the Caribbean, in par­tic­u­lar, we need to im­prove our coach­ing be­cause foot­ball is im­prov­ing all the time and you have to catch up with it. We need reg­u­lar ed­u­ca­tion for coach­es and it’s a step in the right di­rec­tion with the pro­gramme be­ing con­duct­ed by An­ton (Corneal) right now,” he ex­plained. Look­ing at the Na­tion­al teams, the W Con­nec­tion 2018 T&T Pro League win­ning coach is hop­ing his cur­rent Un­der-15 group con­tin­ues to main­tain the right lev­el of fo­cus head­ing in­to the New Year.

“The Un­der-15 team had a fair­ly good year. We played com­pet­i­tive­ly for the first time in Cu­ra­cao and we topped our group, scor­ing a lot of goals which was en­cour­ag­ing. The young­sters still have a long way to go but we are con­tin­u­ing with the work. We are go­ing on a break this week­end and will re­sume in Jan­u­ary.

“In terms of the na­tion­al se­nior team, I thought we had a lot of pos­i­tives this year be­cause we played in al­most every FI­FA win­dow which was very good and you saw a pro­gres­sion in the team in all the games. Some­times the re­sults didn’t go our way but we saw progress be­cause the ob­jec­tive is to make sure we per­form well in the Gold Cup so these games are more prepa­ra­tions to give the coach an idea, what he needs to work on. The se­nior team pro­gram was very en­cour­ag­ing this year,” Fevri­er con­clud­ed.
