Goal-shoot­er Si­mone Mor­gan siz­zled over the week­end in lead­ing Fire Ser­vices to the Pre­mier­ship Di­vi­sion Fast5 ti­tle in the Courts All Sec­tors Net­ball League at the East­ern Re­gion­al In­door Sports Are­na in Tacarigua.

The for­mer na­tion­al goal-shoot­er com­bined with na­tion­al de­fend­er Onel­la Jack-Hill in the shoot­ing cir­cle to help their team play un­beat­en through the tour­na­ment to take the crown, beat­ing Las Lo­mas, 33-11 on Sun­day.

Fast5 (orig­i­nal­ly called Fast­net) is a vari­a­tion of net­ball fea­tur­ing short­ened games and goals worth mul­ti­ple points. Each side on­ly has five play­ers on the court, com­pared with sev­en in nor­mal net­ball com­pe­ti­tion. Each team can sep­a­rate­ly nom­i­nate one "pow­er play" quar­ter, in which each goal scored by that team counts for dou­ble points. The goal-shoot­er and goal-at­tack may shoot goals from out­side the shoot­ing cir­cle. These goals count for two points if scored from in­side the out­er zone and three points if scored in the su­per shot zone; in a pow­er-play quar­ter, they would count for four and six points re­spec­tive­ly.

The six teams in the di­vi­sion com­pet­ed in the dou­ble-elim­i­na­tion tour­na­ment in which the win­ner of the los­ing side plays the win­ner of the win­ning side in the fi­nal. Sub­sti­tu­tions were un­lim­it­ed and could be made at any time.

Co­in­ci­den­tal­ly, Fire and Las Lo­mas met in the open­ing round and it was the fire­woman pre­vail­ing, 35-14, to ad­vance in the win­ners' brack­et. The loss sent Las Lo­mas to the losers' brack­et where it met Po­lice in the first round on Sun­day and won 18-8. Lat­er, Las Lo­mas took on De­fence Force in the brack­et's semi­fi­nal and pro­gressed to the fi­nale with an 18-8 vic­to­ry. Shoot­ing for Las Lo­mas were Raquel Rus­sell, Keon Rus­sell and Em­manuel Rus­sell.

On the oth­er end, Fire, which fin­ished as the run­ner-up last sea­son, eased past Po­lice (15-4) and then bat­tled past de­fend­ing cham­pi­on Po­lice Youth Club (PYC), 17-13, to make it to the ti­tle-match where Mor­gan showed her abil­i­ty at long-range shoot­ing in the high-in­ten­si­ty com­pe­ti­tion.

Fast5 com­pe­ti­tions were held in the oth­er three di­vi­sion of the league.

TSTT was crowned the cham­pi­on in both the Cham­pi­onship and Retro cat­e­gories while Bermudez won the Al­ter­na­tive group.

In the Cham­pi­onship Di­vi­sion, TSTT with its main shoot­ers be­ing Chan­tael Per­ry McEwen, Kani­ka Paul-Payne and Sophia Harp­er de­feat­ed Jabloteh in the fi­nal, 12-8. The main shoot­ers for Jabloteh were Za­kiya Mc Ken­na, Si­mone Bartholomew and Giselle Hob­son.

In the Al­ter­na­tive Di­vi­sion, Bermudez, thanks to shoot­ers Nico­la Al­leyne, Shanequa Grif­fith and Nico­la Solomon, bounced back from an open­ing round loss (24-6) to the Un­ver­si­ty of the West In­dies (UWI) 'X' to be po­si­tion in the losers' brack­et, to reach the fi­nal and de­feat PYC, 16-12.

For TSTT, which played un­beat­en through­out the Retro com­pe­ti­tion cour­tesy the shoot­ing of Denise Rose and De­bra Alie, beat Jabloteh 20-6 in the fi­nal.
