Fire Service cruised past Police Y, 59-33, to clinch a Premiership Division three-peat in the Courts All Sectors Netball League on Saturday at the Eastern Regional Indoor Sports Arena in Tacarigua.
The win not only solidified another championship but it also pushed Fire's league winning streak to 15 matches, dating back to last season when the Fire officers went 10-0 during their league season and with one match outstanding, it can repeat that performance.
Goal-shooter Joelisa Cooper took care of business in the shooting circle, producing 39 goals from 47 attempts while goal-keeper Garbrel Selman led an almost impenetrable defence down the other end.
Their efforts helped Fire control the match-up from the first pass, leading 17-9 at the end of the first quarter 28-20 at the half and 47-23 in the third session before claiming the 26-goal victory and claimed its third consecutive title.
Goal-shooter Tahirah Hollingsworth was allowed 18 of 27 and goal-attack Tiana Dillon got in 15 of 27, for Police Y, which suffered its fourth defeat in five matches. Its lone win of the season came against its X team, which sank to another loss on the weekend. Police X went under to Defence Force, 57-26.
Taking the army/coastguard combination unit to victory were goal-shooter Anastascia Wilson (29/36) and goal-attack Jameela McCarthy (28/34) while for Police, Anika La Roche was best with 11 of 18.
In the Championship Division, Unit Trust Corporation (UTC) Sparks returned to winning ways after being eliminated from the Jean Pierre Knockout Challenge on Thursday evening. UTC defeated Jabloteh, 45-31 to keep its hope of capturing the league title alive.
One of Sparks' toughest challenger for the crown, Bermudez, was also successful, claiming a 55-33 win over Defence Force. The Fire Service team later won its third straight match, toppling TSTT, 50-34.
