This country's veteran footballers will attempt to roll back the years at a Carnival Reunion Lime and exhibition match from 4:30 pm, Sunday at the Barataria Oval.
National coaches Dennis Lawrence and Russell Latapy will headline the star-studded line-ups, along with Ron La Forest, Anton Corneal, the country's Technical Director, Marvin Faustin, Leonson Lewis, Brian Williams, Arnold Dwarika, Angus Eve and Gary Glasgow.
It is being billed a gathering of the football masters and it will feature veteran players from all eras in a mouth-watering North-South Classic in honour of Pat Small, an ex of the 1970s. The event, being staged by the Veteran Football Foundation of T&T will commence with an Under-13 tournament that will comprise Trincity Nationals, Trendsetter Hawks, T&T Football Maestros and Fyzabad Strikers from 10:30 am.
Former T&T captain Clayton Morris said the occasion will serve as the reunion of old friends and rivalries from the glory days, which will be an opportunity for the “old guys to de-stress on the savannah grass.”
He added “This event brings a lot more than just meeting old friends. It will be about learning more about life and how to cope with it healthwise, and enjoying good moments.”
“It’s always a wonderful feeling to be in the company with players of the past who represented the red white and black. I do appreciate them and their ideas which is motivation by itself and with those still able to play at this stage adds even more to the event. Experience is the best teacher and we will be looking to put on a good show and renew some of the old spirits that existed among us when we played the game competitively as well as relive the good old days,” Morris added.
