With leader Clico San Juan Jabloteh on a bye, second place Caledonia AIA of Morvant/Laventille could jump into top spot with a draw or win when it comes up against W Connection tonight. The clash between Caledonia and W Connection comes off at the Marvin Lee Stadium, Macoya from 8.30 pm as part of a "Super Friday" double-header.
Two hours earlier, bmobile Joe Public, fresh off a 4-0 mauling of Jabloteh on Tuesday, tackles St Ann's Rangers. Jabloteh currently leads the table with 20 points from nine matches, one ahead of Caledonia who has a match in hand. Joe Public is third with 15 points, followed by Ma Pau (13) and United Petrotrin and W Connection, both on 12. But tonight, all attention will be on the encounter between Caledonia and W Connection, which will be void of a number of top players due to national team duty.
W Connection, which has endured a tough start to the league campaign goes with six first team players missing due to national team duty.
Goalkeepers Marvin Phillips and Jan-Michael Williams, Kern Cupid, Hughton Hector, Andre Toussaint and Clyde Leon were all named in coach Russell Latapy's Soca Warriors team which departs today for St Kitts/Nevis for a friendly international against that country on Sunday.
For Caledonia, Radanfah Abu Bakr will also be absent due to national team duties. Densill Theobald and Keon Daniel, will not travel with the team because of injury. Joe Public will be favourites to continue its climb up the table, and will welcome back Dale Saunders and Gorian Highley from suspensions while Keyeno Thomas, Hayden Tinto and league top scorer Kerry Baptiste will be on national team duty. Three other matches are schedule for tomorrow.
