Germany hammered Mexico 9-0 at the Dwight Yorke Stadium in a ruthless assault in front of goal. The pocket of German fans didn't have long to wait to celebrate, as Lena Lotzen roared up the left flank and weaved her way into the area before unleashing an unstoppable drive in the fifth minute to open the scoring.
It went from bad to worse for Mexico as pre-tournament standout Lena Petermann scored a double from close range by the 15th minute. First her sliding effort slipped past Rosa Merida and the third goal–seconds after the restart–was a thunderous half-volley which flew into the roof of the net. Flying winger Lotzen added a fourth with a long-range cracker and Malinowski made it 5-0 with two minutes to go in the half.
The Germans picked up with their demolition job early in the second half when Kristin Demann slid home from close inside the first minute. Malinowski added her second in the 55th and in the 66th minute, completed her hat-trick and make the score 8-0. That would have been enough to ensure the largest scoreline in Fifa U-17 finals history, but Germany weren't done just yet.
Petermann hit home off the underside of the crossbar in the 71st minute for her third of the afternoon as the game degenerated into pure farce. Germany next face South Africa on September 8 while Mexico look to pick up the pieces against Korea Republic.
