Siparia Spurs brought joy to their fans of the "Sand City" when the community team completed the double of league and knockout in the Southern Football Association on Saturday at Skinner Park, San Fernando. After edging Penal Rock Road on goal difference to secure the Petrotrin Super League, the Kevon Bascombe-skippered Spurs turned back Diamond United 4-2 in the League Cup final which brought down the curtain at the San Fernando venue. Spurs had to come from behind twice in the match before eventually winning in extra time with only nine men after Brandon Neptune was ejected five minutes into the second period and Gregor Merez being given marching orders in the 65th minute.
Following a goalless firsthalf, Diamond United took the lead only for Spurs to equalise through Kerwin Baptiste from the penalty spot following a foul on Mejias in the box.
Not long after, Diamond United reestablished the lead which it held until the 89th minute when Mejias scored to send the match into extra time. Mejias then gave Spurs the lead for the first time with Chris Collins increasing that lead before the final whistle. Spurs, which is coached by Vernon Dimsoy, will now join Real Maracas of the Eastern Football Association and Eagles of the Central Football Association as qualifiers for the T&T Football Federation's "Champion of Champions" Series for promotion to the bMobile National Super League. In the Executive Cup final of the Second Division last Thursday in Palo Seco, Altrin La Brea All Stars hammered PAL United 5-0. Lindsay Sherwood, who was voted "Man of the Match", netted a double with Alvin Alexander, Philvaughn Jones and Kelvin Hernandez getting one each.
