Op­po­si­tion Sen­a­tor Wade Mark was yes­ter­day re­ferred to the Com­mit­tee of Priv­i­leges by Sen­ate Pres­i­dent Dan­ny Mon­tano. Gov­ern­ment Sen­a­tor Li­nus Rogers moved the mo­tion dur­ing Mon­day's Sen­ate sit­ting. Rogers said Mark should be re­ferred to the Priv­i­leges Com­mit­tee af­ter he "wil­ful­ly" and "in­ten­tion­al­ly" mis­led the Sen­ate last week when he claimed that the ex­ec­u­tive chair­man of the Ur­ban De­vel­op­ment Cor­po­ra­tion of T&T (Ude­cott) Calder Hart ap­proved a $130 mil­lion con­tract to John­son Con­struc­tion to build the Chancery Lane project in San Fer­nan­do.

Mon­tano said on Mon­day that he want­ed time to con­sid­er the mo­tion and in his rul­ing yes­ter­day, said he found that "there is a pri­ma fa­cie case to be made and there­fore I will re­fer and have re­ferred the mat­ter to the Com­mit­tee of Priv­i­leges." Al­so in the Sen­ate yes­ter­day, Min­is­ter in the Of­fice of the Prime Min­is­ter Dr Lenny Saith, in re­sponse to a ques­tion on the Or­der Pa­per, said some 115 chil­dren had been adopt­ed through the Adop­tion Unit over the past five years, and 46 chil­dren were "still cared for" un­der the Min­istry of So­cial De­vel­op­ment's fos­ter-care pro­gramme.
