Opposition Senator Wade Mark was yesterday referred to the Committee of Privileges by Senate President Danny Montano. Government Senator Linus Rogers moved the motion during Monday's Senate sitting. Rogers said Mark should be referred to the Privileges Committee after he "wilfully" and "intentionally" misled the Senate last week when he claimed that the executive chairman of the Urban Development Corporation of T&T (Udecott) Calder Hart approved a $130 million contract to Johnson Construction to build the Chancery Lane project in San Fernando.
Montano said on Monday that he wanted time to consider the motion and in his ruling yesterday, said he found that "there is a prima facie case to be made and therefore I will refer and have referred the matter to the Committee of Privileges." Also in the Senate yesterday, Minister in the Office of the Prime Minister Dr Lenny Saith, in response to a question on the Order Paper, said some 115 children had been adopted through the Adoption Unit over the past five years, and 46 children were "still cared for" under the Ministry of Social Development's foster-care programme. The question was posed by Independent Senator Gail Merhair.
