Dr Glenn Ramadharsingh has done it again. On Saturday, the 47- year-old athlete from Rousillac, South Trinidad completed the gruelling Ironman Triathlon in Florida in a time of 15 hours and 54 minutes.
He was the only T&T national participating in this year’s event at Panama Beach City.
Last year, he completed the event at Cozume, Mexico in a time of 16:06. Ramadharsingh, the chairman of the Siparia Regional Corporation and former Minister of the People under the People's Partnership (PP) Regime, said, "The event was much more challenging since a cold front swept into the area on Thursday lowering temperatures to around 1-2 degrees Celsius. I had to purchase a wetsuit at a substantial cost to be able to do the two and a half-mile swim in chilly waters in a time of 1:45:35."
During the 112-mile bike ride, he was stung by a bee in the lower left leg as he battled the strong and chilly breezes. Ramadharsingh completed the cycling leg of the race in a time of 7:41:42.
The 26.2-mile marathon and final leg of the journey took him a time of 5:57:08. He was greeted by numerous supporters of the event when he comfortably crossed the finish line.
Ramadharsingh said, “I am happy to beat my time last year. I was able to repeat this in a temperate country and run with the best endurance athletes from across the world. I want my achievements here to motivate young people in rural communities. I am very passionate about introducing endurance events especially the splendour of the triathlon event to the south and central Trinidad.”
In the professional category, Joe Skipper of the UK was the overall winner in a time of 7:46:28
