T&T's Lenny Seecharan, the 2018 British Columbia champion apprentice jockey is expected to show off his skills at Santa Rosa Park in Arima tomorrow. However, his mounts are yet to be revealed.
The 22-year-old won the Hastings Race Course's "Champion Apprentice" title, last week after he recorded 12 victories en route to the title. He had two more wins than Jose Ascenio, who won 10 races and six more than his twin-brother brother Learie, who won six times.
The brothers have shown promise as indicated by the trainer and top jockeys at the racecourse.
Lenny landed Expensive Taste for trainer Mike Anderson and his brother ensured there was a double on the card when he landed Marshal Swidle at odds of 15-1 for trainer Anderson.
Lenny then went on the land Silent Eagle at odds of 4/1 for trainer Andiazi Collins.
Earlier this year, the identical twin brothers act moved away from Henrik and Daniel Sedin, the Swedish twins who played for the Vancouver Canucks in the NHL (National Hockey League). The pair has taken British Columbia sports scene by storm with their performances.
The Seecharans have been riding on Saturdays and Sundays in British Columbia for the past three months of this thoroughbred season at Hastings Racecourse.
“There is no way I can tell them apart,” says racing secretary Nichelle Milner. “I thought I was talking to Learie for a full five minutes the other morning before I realised by the look on his face he had no idea what point I was trying to make. It turned out I was talking to Lenny.”
The twins made their racing debuts together as 19-year-old apprentice jockeys at Santa Rosa Park in Trinidad on March 28, 2015. Lenny made his way to Hastings last year and after finishing in the money 30 times including five wins, he convinced Learie to join him for the 52-day meet this season.
From the opening day, Lenny finished second and third in his two mounts and Learie wound up third in his only ride of the day.
Congratulations are in order for Lenny Seecharan the champion apprentice of Hasting this season and his brother Learie who performed with distinction.
