Hillview College students showed why they are the school to beat in T&T, after recording a third successive PowerGen T20 title by defeating Presentation College, Chaguanas at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy in Toruba, San Fernando on Friday night.
Chasing just 101 runs for victory, Hillview made it look like a mountain to climb and in the end, Presentation College ended on 87/8 giving Hillview victory by 13 runs.
The strong Hillview bowling attack was always going to be a major threat to the Presentation team. JP Barrie bowling at good pace troubled the early batsmen and later on, skipper Navin Bedaisee came into his own, bowling beautifully to end with 2/9 off his four overs. The only Presentation player to show resistance was fast bowler Jayden Seales who smacked 30 before he was dismissed by Seales.
When the final wicket fell, Hillview completed the double of league and Intercol for the second successive year.
Batting first, Hillview lost early wickets and this crippled their effort in the powerplay. A lot depended on skipper Navin Bedaisee and when he left the wheels fell off the cart.
West Indies Under-19 player Kirstan Kallicharan then took control of the middle off the innings. The little right-hander played the situation well and was keen on rotating the strike. While he fought, it was the lone fight. He did not get the required support and when he left for 48 the others could not carry the score beyond 100. In the end, Hillview closed on 100/9. The star of the show for Presentation College was West Indies Under-19 player Matthew Patrick grabbed 4/19 with his off-spin, while Isaiah Ali took 2/21 and Joel Sutherland 2/30.
