NEW DELHI – The Indian Premier League (IPL) is preparing to restart after a week-long suspension caused by escalating tensions between India and Pakistan.

A revised schedule is expected to be announced in the coming days, with organisers considering adjustments such as reducing the number of venues or scheduling more double-headers to complete the remaining 16 matches.

The tournament was originally set to conclude on May 25. The IPL, the world’s largest franchise cricket league, was paused last Friday as security concerns grew amid hostilities between the two neighbouring nations.

However, a ceasefire announced on Saturday has held so far, and high-level discussions between Indian and Pakistani officials took place on Monday, easing concerns.

Meanwhile, the Pakistan Super League (PSL), which had been relocated to the UAE before being postponed indefinitely, is also working on rescheduling its final eight matches.

While several English and Australian players departed India following the IPL’s suspension, other overseas players, including West Indians, remained.

Gujarat Titans, the current league leaders, even held training sessions over the weekend in preparation for the potential resumption.
