For­mer T&T se­nior women’s vol­ley­baller Sinead Jack and her Eczacibasi Dy­nav­it team suf­fered their first de­feat in the Turk­ish Voda­fone Sul­tan Li­gi af­ter los­ing in straight sets to ri­vals Fener­bache Med­icana in their top-of-ta­ble clash on Sat­ur­day (Oc­to­ber 26).

Both clubs en­tered the match-up with per­fect 4-0 records, but in the end, Fener­bache Med­icana, led by the of­fence of Cuban-born Turk­ish women’s in­ter­na­tion­al Melis­sa Var­gas’ 24 points, in­clu­sive of four aces, won 25-19, 25-20, 26-24 in 93 min­utes.

Ana Cristi­na De Souza added 14 points for Fener­bache Med­icana, while Hristi­na Vuchko­va got sev­en and Melih Dekin got five in the win, their fifth from as many match­es this sea­son, all in straight sets (3-0) to im­prove to a max­i­mum of 15 points, lev­el with Galatasaray Daikin, who al­so re­mained flaw­less with a fifth straight sets vic­to­ry, 25-20, 25-21, 25-17 against Bahcelievler Bld.

For Dy­nav­it, Ser­bian Ti­jana Boskovic led with 15 points while Hande Bal­adin got 14, Jack nine, and Yaprak Erkik got sev­en in the loss as they dropped to 4-1 on the sea­son, lev­el on 12 points with Turk Ha­va Yol­lari, while Vak­if­bank, which al­so has a 4-1 record, is fifth with 11 points. 

Jack and her club­mates will have a quick turn­around as they ninth placed Ay­din (2-3) who have six points to­day (Tues­day, Oc­to­ber 29) be­fore meet­ing Turk Ha­va Yol­lari on Sat­ur­day, No­vem­ber 2.

Jack and her club will once again com­pete in the Women’s Vol­ley­ball Cham­pi­ons League Group Stage and have been drawn in Pool B along­side Obren­o­vac of Ser­bia, Paris St Cloud of France, and Ger­many’s Schw­er­iner, with their first match set for Wednes­day, No­vem­ber 6 at home to the Ser­bians.
