T&T Girls Under-16 Team served off their campaign at the 2020 International Tennis Federation Junior Fed Cup Pre Qualifying Central America and Caribbean Tournament with a comfortable victory against Suriname in Pool D at the El Salvador Tennis Federation Sports Centret, Merliot, El Salvador on Monday.
The sixth ranked Anthony Jeremiah-coached T&T girls who had a brief training stint at the the Sanchez-Casal Academy in Florida which ended on Saturday brushed aside Suriname 3-0.
For T&T, Cameron Wong beat Paula Koorndijk 6-3 6-1: Aalisha Alexis battled past Jamila Sadiek 6-4 6-4 while the pair of Wong and Keesa Lee Young stopped Aila Koorndijk and Karney De Mees 6-3 6-4.
Barbados, ranked fourth faced Jamaica in the other match in Pool D while today (Tuesday, February 11), T&T faces Jamaica and Barbados meets Suriname, and on Wednesday in the final round of round-robin matches, T&T battles Barbados, while Jaimica plays Suriname.
Group A comprises El Salvador (#1), Puerto Rico and Panama while Guatemala (#2), Bahamas and Cuba are in Pool B, and Costa Rica (#3), US Virgin Islands, Honduras, and Dominican Republic (#5) are in Pool C.
At the end of the pool matches, the top two teams will advance to the main draw quarterfinals.
