Just For Fun topped Pub House Pirates on match-day five of the National Double in/Double out league of darts to remain in the second spot in the A Division. This was on Tuesday at the home of darts, Kosmos Members Club in Port-of-Spain hosted by the T&T Darts Association (TTDA).
It was the newly promoted derby that took centre stage as Jus For Fun took on Pub House Pirates for the first time as A division team. Just For Fun took early control of the ten-leg contest leading 3-1 early on and just cruised to victory 8-2. Just For Fun stays secured in the second spot while the Pirates are in fifth. De Original Game Shot (DOGS) is in third place after a solid 8-2 victory over the vastly experienced Drifters. DOGS was 6-0 up and at that stage, it was for Drifters to save face and maybe win the remaining four legs but could only muster two wins. Drifters are in fourth place.
The B division continues to serve up some great entertainment. Scorpions sit pretty at the top with a four-point gap after defeating bottom-of-the-table Top Shot 9-1 in what was a blistering display of experience and skill. It was only the efforts of Stefan Couri of Top Shot that saved his team from getting whitewashed winning his singles match. Bullz I are now second tied on 30 points with CB Shooters and Shanghai Bulls. Bullz I needed to defeat Shanghai Bulls to remain at the top and they were poised to do so after racing to a 5-1 lead. The Bulls needed a swift reply to avoid embarrassment and of course to keep promotion hopes alive.
Shanghai Bulls went on to miraculously win the remaining four legs to draw 5-5 in what was an incredible comeback and a great show of mental grit and tenacity. Bullz I was left shocked and disappointed but remain part of the top four racing towards promotion. CB Shooters faced off against in-form Bulldogs. It was 2-2 at one stage, the Shooters were 5-4 up going into the last game, CB Shooters had many chances to kill off the game until finally they were left with only madhouse (double 1) left which was calmly taken out by Mario Martinez. The Shooters are now third and the Bulldogs sit fifth.
Sea Wolves secured their second victory of the season after defeating Random Squad 6-4. Sea Wolves were 3-1 up early on in the contest then went on to win 3/5 singles leading 6-3 going into the final team game but Random Squad was able to make the score a respectable 6-4. Random Squad remains winless for the season so far.
Match-day 6 is set for March 12 at the Kosmos Members Club. The 23rd Caribbean Darts Cup is carded from July 19-29 to be held in Jamaica.
The national team are the defending champions and are working diligently to be prepared to make it two in two. Adam Da Costa, Sheraz Rasool, and Gunesh Gupta were appointed as the senior male, senior female, and youth team coaches respectively.
Training sessions have already begun with senior team training set for Thursday (March 7) at the home of Darts. Funding continues to be a major challenge as the TTDA is now actively seeking partnerships to aid in offsetting the cost of this regional event. Interested parties can contact the PRO of the TTDA Jarrod Payne (mortimerjpayne@gmail.com).
