All four teams picked up points in Monday’s (June 24) rescheduled double-header in the Deportivo Point Fortin (PF) Community Football League as both matches ended in draws.
Originally set to play on Saturday (June 22) at the La Brea recreational ground, but due to unforeseen circumstances, the matches between New Village Football Club (FC) and Vance River Ballstars and La Brea All Stars and Point Ligoure United were postponed to Monday at a new venue, Mahaica Sporting Complex.
However, the shift did not affect the competitiveness of the matches as the results showed. In the first affair, Prince Pascal opened the scoring in the 19th minute for New Village FC and the team seemed to be heading into the half with a 1-0 lead until Vance River managed to pull one back in the 44th thanks to Kurlan Khan.
In the second half, both teams tried to get the winner but it never came, resulting in the teams going away with a point each on Match Day three in the third edition of the CFL.
Later, La Brea All Stars and Point Ligoure United also earned a point following their 2-2 draw.
Akiel Jacob scored the opener in the 40th minute for Point Ligoure to give his team a 1-0 at halftime. It didn’t take La Brea long to equalise as five minutes into the resumption, Marcus Joseph (50th) found the back of the net. Seven minutes later, his team-mate Omri Baird (57th) doubled up La Brea’s lead, 2-1.
The La Brea unit seemed to be heading to a win in its opening match in the football league, designed by Deportivo PF as a crime-fighting initiative, but Nathaniel Mitchell spoiled the celebration, scoring the equaliser in the 88th minute for Point Ligoure.
These matches were starkly different from Friday’s lopsided double-header also played in Mahaica.
In the first match, Mahaica FC whipped Pace Lakeview United, 6-0, and later, Palo Seco Trippy FC crushed Cochrane Challengers, 5-0.
Jeremiah Kesar scored a brace to lead the onslaught by the Mahaica team. He netted the opening item in the sixth and then scored his and the host team’s second goal in the 13th.
His namesake Jeremiah Niles (34th), Jahmali Cobham (59th), and Malachi Webb (63rd) were the other players on target.
In the later match, all five goals came in the first half. Dez Jones scored as early as the third minute. Shackiel Henry was next to add his name to the scoresheet in the 24th followed soon after by Mickell Charles in the 27th. Judah Garcia closed off the scoring with a pair of goals for Trippy FC in the 37th and 40th.
Action resumes today at the Mahaica Sporting Complex with another double-header.
