The trio of utility player Alvin Jones, midfielder Leston Paul and Central American-based striker Ricardo John were the only new faces named in a 20-man squad by coach Dennis Lawrence on Thursday for T&T's international friendly away to Thailand on October 14.
The match will be played at the Suphan Buri Municipality Stadium, Suphan Buri, Thailand from 6 pm (7am TT time) and will be the first for the Khaleem Hyland-led T&T squad since its 2-0 defeat of United Arab Emirates.
The 24-year-old Jones who has 16 caps to his name is the younger brother of Germany-based national winger Joevin Jones and is famously remembered for his thunderbolt of a strike which earned this country a 2-1 win over USA on the final day of 2018 Concacaf World Cup Final Round qualification to dump the latter out of the top four placings and a spot in Russia earlier this year.
Former T&T Under-17 and Under-20 Fifa World Cup captain Paul, 28, made the last of his 17 appearances for the senior national team in a 0-0 draw with Martinique in March and is yet to find the back of the net while 23-year-old John who plies his trade in El Salvador with Club Deportivo Luis Angel Firpo has one previous appearance for the national senior team, a 2-2 draw with Grenada in 2017.
Making way for the trio from last month's squad were defender Neveal Hackshaw of United Soccer League's Charleston Battery, Kathon St Hillaire (SC Znojmo FK—Czech Republic), and T&T Pro League top scorer, W Connection striker Marcus Joseph, the latter of whom is still recovering from an injury.
The squad which consists of 11 overseas-based players basically remains the same from last month with goalkeeping duo Adrian Foncette (Police FC) and Marvin Phillip (Central FC) keeping their spots alongside defenders Sheldon Bateau, Daneil Cyrus, Aubrey David, Triston Hodge, Keston Julien and Curtis Gonzales.
In midfielder, Hyland is joined once again by Kevan George, Akeem Humphrey, Duane Muckette, Ataulla Guerra, Joevin Jones, Nathan Lewis and Jomal Williams, while in the attack, John and Finland-based Shahdon Winchester will more than likely compete for the lone starting spot.
Still out through injury is Israel-based winger Levi Garcia while there is no room for Super League duo, Sean De Silva and Yohance Marshall, both senior national team players, and the overseas-based quartet of Rundell Winchester, Carlyle Mitchell, Mekeil Williams and Jamille Boatswain.
In-form Pro League duo, Keron "Ball Pest' Cummings of Morvant Caledonia United and Police FC's Kareem Freitas also failed to earn call-ups despite their impressive domestic run of forms at present.
Instead, Lawrence has also invited three Under-21 players to train with the squad on local soil over the weekend before the team’s departure for Thailand in Kierron Mason, Judah Garcia and Tyrese Bailey.
The T&T Football Association (T&TFA) also announced that a friendly against Iran has been secured to be played in Tehran on November 15th.
