Justice Leon scored 20 points to lead Maloney Pacers to a huge c win over Spartans TT, reviving competition in the Women’s Division of the Lincoln “Cripple” Griffith North Zone Basketball League.
She led five players who reached double figures to seal the lopsided victory in the first match of a triple-header at the Woodbrook Youth Facility in Port-of-Spain on Sunday (May 17).
The other top scorers included Chanteal Perry and Alyssa Connelly, who each added 14 points, alongside Connelly’s aunt, Jillisa Briggs (11), and mother, Kielle Connelly (10). Their combined efforts kept the Pacers ahead at the end of each quarter–18-4 in the first, 39-17 at the half, and 65-28 in the third–before sealing the 53-point win. No player reached double digits for the newcomers, Spartans TT.
In the next match of the afternoon, Christian Farnum was the go-to player in Coach KG Elite’s 91-48 win over New Age Lions in the Men’s Second Division. He produced 26 points to lead the unbeaten Elite to another one-sided victory.
Coach KG Elite jumped to an early 21-9 lead in the first quarter, courtesy primarily of Rawle Strong, who connected on nine of his 15 points, including two three-pointers. Elite stayed aggressive into the second period and extended its lead to 17 points (42-25) at halftime.
On the resumption, Elite, led by Farnum, continued to break down the Lions’ defence. Farnum attacked the basket, earning several trips to the free-throw line, and closed the third quarter with three consecutive three-pointers to increase his team’s advantage to 33 points (67-34) heading into the fourth period. Elite continued to cruise through the final session to seal the 43-point victory.
In the feature match of the Men’s First Division, a quartet consisting of Antonio Ambris (22), Kevon Williams (17), Chike Augustine (16), and Sadiki Guerra (12) guided Morvant Oil Birds to a hard-fought 75-72 win over Basic Basketball Academy.
Morvant Oil Birds held narrow leads throughout the matchup–14-11 in the first, 40-31 at halftime, and 57-54 in the third. The Academy matched the Morvant-based team basket-for-basket in the fourth and final quarter but ultimately had to settle for a narrow three-point loss. For Basic, Adam Salazar topscored with 18 points, while teammates Tyler Hyndman and Jahmaul Graham added 13 and 12, respectively.
Action resumes today with a double-header starting at 6.30 pm.
