Evin Lewis and Marlon Richards batted the Pirates Bay Raiders into the eliminator slot of the Dream XI Tobago T10 blast at Shaw Park, Scarborough, Tobago on Thursday. Raiders earned the right to play in the eliminator against Mount Irvine Surfers after they scored a seven-wicket win over King’s Bay Royals who didn’t have a chance to progress.
The Raiders started the day with one foot already in the eliminator with 13 points and only a huge loss that would push their net run rate below the Surfers and No Man’s Land Explorers (both 13 points).
The Royals elected to bat first and scored 81 for 6 at the end of their ten overs. They were reduced to 13 for 2 with both Jahron Alfred and Jabari Mills back in the hutch, before a 48-run partnership between Mikkel Govia and Clinton Brooks.
Brooks was dismissed for only five as Govia dominated the partnership. The Central Sports all-rounder scored 49 from just 23 balls with seven fours and two sixes before he offered Josh Telemaque a return catch.
Pirate’s Bay left-arm spin bowler Christopher Vincent was difficult to get away. His two overs conceded just seven runs with two wickets. Former Red Force captain Marlon Richards added two wickets to the wicket column.
In reply the Raiders made light work of the target as they reached 84 for 3 in only six overs.
Out-of-favour West Indies opener Evin Lewis slammed four fours and two sixes as he reached 31 and Richards pounded 30 runs from just nine balls to finish unbeaten with two fours and three maximums. Pirate Bay won by seven wickets with 24 balls to spare.
The Raiders will face Mt Irvine Surfers as Pigeon Point Skiers failed to defeat table leaders and finalists Store Bay Snorkelers in the evening’s second match of the doubleheader.
The Snorkelers chose to bat first and scored 121 for 6 from their ten overs. Joshua James slammed an 11-ball 33, while Dillon Douglas scored 25 from 11 and Anthony Providence scored 24 from 14.
Akeil Cooper and Aaron Nanan took two wickets each for the Skiers.
The Raiders and the Surfers will engage in the eliminator on Friday from 12 noon with the winner facing Store Bay Snorkelers for the championship from 2:30 pm.
