Cadell Lyons splashed gold and a new Open men's 100 metres backstroke record at the National Open Short Course Championships on Saturday evening at the National Aquatic Centre in Balmain, Couva.
The Point Fortin Aqua Darts athletes erased the record jointly held by Dylan Carter and Joshua Mc Leod of 55.05 seconds, to register a new mark of 54.36.
Giovanni Rivas (unattached) established a new 9 - 10 boy's national record when he won gold in the 10 and Under 100m butterfly. Rivas won the event in 1:09.06 erasing the 2010 11-12 record of Zarek Wilson of 1:09.13
Wilson of Blue Dolphins Swim Club established two new 11-12 boy's national records when he won gold in the 400m Individual Medley and 200m freestyle events also on Saturday evening.
He won the 400 IM in 5:02.82 erasing the 2010 11-12 record of Jabari Baptiste of 5:04.47. Wilson was also the victor in the 200m freestyle in a record 1:58.32 surpassing Dylan Carter 's 2009 record of 1:58.94.
Zoe Anthony of Marlins Swim Club established a new 11-12 girl's national record when she won gold in the 400m Individual Medley. Anthony won the event in 5:20.90 erasing the 2010 11-12 record of Syriah David of 5:21.76.
Early yesterday morning in the preliminaries, Anthony was back in the water and erased the 2010 11-12 girl's 100m Individual Medley of David of 1:11.68, to establish a new record of 1:11.56.
Malik Nelson of Atlantis Aquatics also erased the 2010 13-14 boy's 100m Individual Medley of David of 1:04.92, to establish a new record of 1:01.94.
