It rained goals on Thurs­day evening when ac­tion in the Mag­no­lia Hock­ey Club’s In­door Hock­ey Tour­na­ment con­tin­ued at the Wood­brook Youth Cen­tre in Port-of-Spain, with an as­ton­ish­ing 59 goals scored across 11 match­es.

​Sea­soned open men’s and women’s cam­paign­ers, Po­lice and Mag­no­lia women, both post­ed iden­ti­cal 7-0 de­mo­li­tions in their re­spec­tive en­coun­ters. Mag­no­lia, fresh from a 2-1 tri­umph over Paragon on open­ing day, was par­tic­u­lar­ly ruth­less against Ven­tures, with Bri­an­na Govia lead­ing the way with a beaver trick (four goals) in their 7-0 vic­to­ry.

​Mag­no­lia’s dom­i­nance gave their op­po­nents al­most no time to re­spond. Govia’s spec­tac­u­lar ef­fort wasn’t the on­ly high­light, as Saman­tha Olton, who al­so scored in her team’s open­ing win over Paragon, found the net once again along­side Sha­ni­ah De Fre­itas to com­plete their rout and se­cure their team’s sec­ond vic­to­ry in as many match­es.

​In the open men’s di­vi­sion, Po­lice al­so se­cured their sec­ond win in as many match­es, ham­mer­ing Fa­ti­ma 7-0.

​Like Govia, na­tion­al stand­out Akim Tou­s­saint fired in four goals to spear­head his team’s dom­i­nant dis­play. Tou­s­saint drew first blood with­in the open­ing minute, fol­lowed by Cam­ron Adam­son dou­bling the ad­van­tage in the sec­ond.

​Tou­s­saint ex­tend­ed the lead to 3-0 in the fourth minute be­fore Ker­wyn Dun­can-Hunte made it 4-0 in the sixth. With the Law­men in full con­trol, Tou­s­saint com­pound­ed Fa­ti­ma’s pain with con­sec­u­tive strikes in the sev­enth and 12th min­utes to stretch the lead to 6-0. Jor­dan Reynos then ham­mered the fi­nal item from a penal­ty cor­ner in the 15th.

​Mean­while, Queen’s Park Crick­et Club (QPCC) I re­bound­ed from an open­ing-day loss Wednes­day to crush Notre Dame 9-0, the day’s largest mar­gin of vic­to­ry in Open Men’s ‘A’ di­vi­sion ac­tion. Pro­lif­ic na­tion­al strik­er Jor­dan Vieira stole the spot­light with an­oth­er beaver trick as a hap­less Notre Dame played mere by­standers in the as­sault.

Apart from Vieira, the Parkites, as Queen’s Park is com­mon­ly called, al­so got a dou­ble from Levi An­der­son, along with a goal each from Ethan Reynos, Nicholas Siu Butt, and Je­re­my Nieves in the win­ning ef­fort.

​In the Open Men’s ‘B’ di­vi­sion, Malvern and Paragon emerged as com­fort­able win­ners on Thurs­day. Malvern, who were pre­vi­ous­ly beat­en 3-0 by Paragon, turned the ta­bles against De­fence Force in an 8 pm clash to pre­vail 5-3. De­spite two ear­ly goals from Army Coast Guard Com­bi­na­tion team’s Tarell Singh and Dy­lan Fran­cis in the sec­ond and fourth min­utes, Malvern stormed back with Shawn Phillip, Christo­pher Lazar, Lyn­dell By­er, Tyrese Ben­jamin, and Rene Mo­hammed all find­ing the net in pro­pelling their team to vic­to­ry.

​In an­oth­er Men’s ‘B’ di­vi­sion con­test, Paragon clob­bered Queen’s Park II 4-1, cour­tesy of a dou­ble from Joel Daniel. Kelon Sker­ritt and Kiel Mur­ray added the oth­er two goals for Paragon, while Shawn Lee Quay grabbed a soli­tary con­so­la­tion goal for the Parkites.

Guyanese out­fit Old Forte Vipers made a late en­trance to the pro­ceed­ings and fin­ished the day with a se­ries of mixed re­sults. Field­ing a team in the Un­der-17 men’s di­vi­sion, the Vipers shut out Malvern 2-0, cour­tesy of Bran­don Layne and Jim­my Car­pio’s items; and were equal­ly dom­i­nant in the U-17 women’s cat­e­go­ry, pre­vail­ing 3-1 over Mag­no­lia. This time, a dou­ble from Tinashe Hen­ry and an­oth­er from Kei­tana Per­ci­val proved to be suf­fi­cient de­spite the lone goal for Mag­no­lia that came from Scout De Li­ma.
