Sha­keem McK­ay and his Louisiana State Uni­ver­si­ty (LSU) team­mates qual­i­fied for the medal round of the men's 4x400 me­tres re­lay at the Na­tion­al Col­le­giate Ath­let­ic As­so­ci­a­tion (NCAA) Di­vi­sion One Out­door Track and Field Cham­pi­onships in Eu­gene, Ore­gon on Wednes­day.

On the first day of ac­tion, LSU was sec­ond in the first of three heats of the pre­lim­i­nar­ies in three min­utes and 02.95 sec­onds (3:02.95). McK­ay of lo­cal club, Abi­lene Wild­cats, ran the sec­ond leg record­ing a 45.21-sec­ond split. LSU's was the sixth-fastest of the 24 teams. The top nine fin­ish­ers qual­i­fied for to­day's fi­nal. At last year's NCAA Fi­nal, McK­ay's LSU 4x400m squad was elim­i­nat­ed in the pre­lim­i­nar­ies.

Min­neso­ta's Devin Au­gus­tine bowed out in the men's 200m pre­lim­i­nar­ies. The Point Fortin New Jets sprint­er was sixth in heat one in 20.54 sec­onds. How­ev­er, the 2019 Carif­ta boys' Un­der-17 100m gold medal­list was 17th over­all, with on­ly the top nine mov­ing in­to the medal round.

Last night, three lo­cal women's ath­letes were to con­test the women's 4x100m pre­lim­i­nar­ies for their re­spec­tive schools. Ak­i­lah Lewis with Ole Miss was to run in heat one while Leah Bertrand's Ohio State and Tae­jha Badal's Texas State were set to be in heat three. Bertrand was sched­uled to be back on the track for the women's 100m pre­lim­i­nar­ies in heat one. Rae-Anne Serville of the Uni­ver­i­ty of South Cal­i­for­nia (USC) was to line up in the women's 400m hur­dles pre­lim­i­nar­ies in heat three.

The T&T quar­tet was seek­ing to ad­vance to the fi­nals set for Sat­ur­day.

Kelsey Daniel (Kaizen Pan­thers) of the Uni­ver­si­ty of Texas will vie for the men's triple jump ti­tle lat­er to­day. Daniel, a for­mer Carif­ta and Pan Amer­i­can Ju­nior Games medal­list, is a for­mer Ju­nior Col­lege cham­pi­on as a stu­dent of New Mex­i­co Com­mu­ni­ty Col­lege.
