Six goals in the first half propelled Mexico to a commanding 6-0 victory against T&T Women Warriors in Group A of League A of the Concacaf Road to W Gold Cup on Tuesday night at the Estadio Hidalgo in Pachuca, Mexico on Tuesday night.

With the win, Mexico now sits in first place in the group with six points through two matches, while T&T remain on zero points after one game, the same as Puerto Rico, the third team in the group.

Mexico wasted no time in getting on the scoreboard, as Maria Sanchez scored for the second game in a row by stabbing home a cross from Scarlett Camberos before the three minute mark for a 1-0 lead.

Greta Espinoza quickly doubled the advantage to 2-0 in the tenth minute when T&T goalkeeper Kimika Forbes spilled a long-range shot, allowing Espinoza to stroke home the rebound.

Mexico then made it 3-0 in the 19th minute with a sparkling goal in transition that saw Alicia Cervantes polish off the counterattack with a right-footed laser into the net.

A long-distance effort from Alexia Delgado that rolled off the fingertips of Forbes and into goal extended it to 4-0 in the 25th minute, followed by Charlyn Corral turning in a blocked shot in the 39th minute for a 5-0 lead.

Corral was instrumental again in the 42nd minute sending in a cross that allowed that was tapped home by Cervantes to stretch it to 6-0.

With the six-goal advantage, Mexico could play to their liking and patiently wait to carve out any further scoring chances, however, the T&T defence held firm in the second 45, leading to the 6-0 final.

The loss stretched the T&T national women’s team winless to five matches, with their last win being a 13-0 slaughtering of the Turks and Caicos during the early stages of the 2022 Gold Cup qualifiers on April 9. 2022.

The T&T women will have a chance at redemption when they welcome Mexico to Port-of-Spain on October 27 before facing Puerto Rico (away) on December 1 and then at home on December 5. Puerto Rico was beaten 2-1 by Mexico last Friday in Mexico.

After 90 group stage matches, which include home and away play within each League and Group, the top finishers in each of the League A groups (three teams) will qualify for the 2024 W Gold Cup Group stage.

The second-place finishers in each of the League A groups (three teams) and the first-place finishers in each of the League B groups (three teams) will advance to the 2024 W Gold Cup preliminaries.
