Minister of Sport and Youth Affairs, Phillip Watts, on Wednesday, presented celebrated javelin thrower and Sports Ambassador Keshorn Walcott with a National Incentive and Reward valued at TT$500,000.
The presentation, held at the Ministry’s Head Office with Permanent Secretary Penelope Bradshaw-Niles in attendance, officially recognises Walcott’s outstanding gold medal victory at the 2025 World Athletics Championships in Tokyo.
During the courtesy visit, Minister Watts applauded Walcott for his consistent excellence on the international stage, describing the athlete as "a symbol of pride and inspiration for the people and athletes of T&T".
The visit also facilitated high-level discussions regarding a potential collaboration between the Ministry of Sport and Youth Affairs, the Sport Company of T&T (SporTT), and Walcott’s organisation, JAVCOTT. These talks follow the launch of the 2026 Golden League of Athletics TT, an initiative aimed at enhancing athlete development and expanding opportunities for emerging talent across the nation.
While discussions remain ongoing to finalise the partnership, the move signals a strategic effort to integrate Walcott’s expertise into the national sporting framework.
In addition to the formal rewards, Walcott lent his endorsement to the Ministry’s “Keep Pumpin Up Yuh Fitness” campaign, which officially launched on Wednesday at Evolution Gym in Chaguanas. The programme promotes active living through aerobics, Zumba, and HIIT sessions, and is being implemented across six locations nationwide from January 19 to February 12.
Minister Watts reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to advancing sport development while encouraging citizens to embrace healthy lifestyles.
“Keshorn continues to represent the best of who we are as a nation, disciplined, resilient, and dedicated to excellence. His example continues to motivate our youth and our sporting community,” said Minister Watts.
