T&T junior netballers had mixed results in their opening two matches at the Caribbean Netball Association’s (CNA) Jean Pierre Youth Netball Championships in Roseau, Dominica, which started on the weekend.

At the Windsor Park Sports Stadium, the junior “Calypso Girls” fell to a narrow 18-15 defeat to the team from the host country on Sunday after opening with a 16-11 win over Grenada, the day before.

Goal-attack Keiko Roy led the scoring for T&T when they met the Dominicans in the final match on the second night of action in the junior tournament. Roy connected nine of her 14 attempts while feeding her goal-shooter Adriana Moreno, who finished with six from 10 tries.

For Dominica, goal-shooter Kenya John produced a match-high 11 of 18. Le-Myah Forde, the goal-attack, added seven in 14 to give the host team its second straight win in as many matches. Dominica sealed a huge 23-8 victory over St Lucia on Saturday.

That evening, T&T pulled off a five-goal (16-11) win over the Grenadians in the final match of the opening night. Both Roy and Moreno netted eight goals from 10 and 12 tries, respectively.

T&T, coached by former national senior captain Lystra Solomon-Simmons with Liselle Johnson as her assistant coach, were last evening, scheduled to face St Lucia, who bounced back from its opening loss to Dominica (23-8), to beat Cayman Islands (16-14).

In the fourth round of matches today, T&T will take on the winless Cayman Islands.

Tomorrow will be the shooting competition from 8 am and later T&T face Barbados in the final match of the junior championships at 7 pm.
