Top-order batsmen Navin Bidaisee and Jason Mohammed scored hundreds as Powergen powered to a strong position at stumps on Day 1 of their Trinidad and Tobago Cricket Board (TTCB) Premiership Division 1 match against Bess Motors Marchin Patriots at Marchin, Charlieville on Saturday.
Mohammed and Bidiasee stepped up after the dismissals of Cephas Cooper and Jeremy Solozano, the batsmen who came into the match with centuries from the last round.
Cooper was dismissed for ten, having been caught by Matheus Komal off a delivery from the tall pacer Rivaldo Ramlogam, and Solazano scored a patient 50 as he continued his good form. Solozano hit five fours in his knock and shared in a 93-run partnership with the West Indies all-rounder. When Solozano was dismissed at 107 for two, Mohammed joined Bidaisee, and together they put together a 149-run partnership in 32.1 overs.
Bidaisee departed at 256 for 101, his innings laced with 11 fours and three sixes. Mohammed continued with Mbeki Joseph, and at the close they were 319 for three. Mohammed will resume this morning on 105 (14 fours and one six), and Joseph will resume on 37.
At the Prisons ground, the Queen’s Park spinners continued their good form as they bowled Prisons out for a meagre 61 in just 32 overs. Bryan Charles led the carnage, as the offspinner took five for 18 in 11 overs and Yannic Carriah took two for 11.
In response, Amir Jangoo scored a second hundred in consecutive matches as the West Indies batter hit five fours in his unbeaten 111. He shared in a 41-run partnership with Jyd Goolie, then an 118-run partnership with Red Force captain Joshua Da Silva, who scored a 53-ball 58.
At the close, Jangoo was unbeaten on 111 and Tion Webster unbeaten on 29.
Johann Jeremiah scored the day’s fourth hundred, as Victoria scored 257 all out against Central Sports Yorkshire, who were 163 for four at stumps.
All matches resume from 10 this morning.
