ST JOHN’S, An­tigua – Matthew Nan­du carved out a bril­liant dou­ble cen­tu­ry, while teenaged bats­man Jonathan Van Lange scored a first-class cen­tu­ry on de­but as the Guyana Harpy Ea­gles made the West In­dies Acad­e­my toil in the field on day three of their warmup match at the An­tigua Recre­ation Ground on Tues­day.

Nan­du scored a ca­reer-best 237 and Van Lange scored a flu­ent 133 to guide the Harpy Ea­gles to 655 for eight – an over­all lead of 170 runs.

Re­sum­ing the day on 248 for three with Nan­du on 110, the Acad­e­my reaped ear­ly suc­cess when leg spin­ner Zis­han Mo­tara dis­missed Zeynul Ram­sam­my for just 14 with five runs added to the to­tal.

His de­par­ture brought Van Lange to the crease and for the next three hours and forty min­utes, the pair ter­rorised the Acad­e­my’s bowl­ing at­tack in a mam­moth 255-run part­ner­ship for the fifth wick­et.

Van Lange was the first to get to his mile­stone, scam­per­ing a sin­gle af­ter a mis­field by Mo­tara at cov­er off the bowl­ing of spin­ner Giovonte De­Peiza, to reach his 100 off 122 balls.

Nan­du fol­lowed soon af­ter, reach­ing his dou­ble cen­tu­ry by flick­ing Mo­tara through mid­wick­et for a sin­gle off 313 balls.

Mo­tara even­tu­al­ly got the wick­et of Van Lange, caught be­hind by the wick­et­keep­er af­ter fac­ing 165 balls and hit­ting 20 fours and one six, to make the score 508 for five.

Cap­tain Ri­val­do Clarke then brought Nan­du’s marathon in­nings that spanned 13 min­utes shy of 10 hours to an end by hav­ing him caught be­hind. In all he faced 361 balls and struck 29 fours.

Gu­dakesh Motie made 48 be­fore be­ing bowled by Nathan Ed­ward and Mo­tara com­plet­ed his five-wick­et haul by bowl­ing Veerasam­my Per­maul for one.

Richie Look­nauth end­ed the day un­beat­en on 71 off 108 balls, with nine fours and one six.

Mo­tara has so far tak­en 5-199.
