Five-time na­tion­al SS­FL Boys’ Pre­mier Di­vi­sion cham­pi­ons Na­pari­ma Col­lege have won the Sec­ondary Schools Foot­ball League (SS­FL) sea­son-open­ing Su­per Cup, with a com­fort­able 6-0 win over St Bene­dict’s at the Ato Boldon Sta­di­um in Bal­main, Cou­va on Fri­day.

Mean­while, Sig­nal Hill Sec­ondary de­throned reign­ing girls Su­per Cup cham­pi­ons Pleas­antville Sec­ondary with a com­pre­hen­sive 4-2 win in game one of yes­ter­day’s dou­ble-head­er.

In the day’s fea­ture match, Malique Hings scored a sec­ond-half brace, in­clud­ing a penal­ty for Na­pari­ma in their dom­i­nant dis­play. Team cap­tain Dar­i­on Her­nan­dez had head­ed Na­pari­ma in­to a ninth-minute lead be­fore na­tion­al se­nior men’s team strik­er Adasa Richard­son dou­bled the lead in the 26th minute from a head­er as well. They took that lead in­to the half-time break.

On the re­sump­tion, D’lani Hunte and Ar­ron Ray­mond ex­tend­ed Na­pari­ma’s lead to 4-0 be­fore Hinds’ dou­ble capped off the stel­lar dis­play by Na­pari­ma, un­der the su­per­vi­sion of coach An­gus Eve.

In hand­ing Pleas­antville Sec­ondary their first de­feat since De­cem­ber 2024, a 5-4 penal­ty-kick loss to St Joseph Con­vent (Port-of-Spain) in the Na­tion­al Girls In­ter-Col fi­nal, Sig­nal Hill’s mul­ti­sport star ath­lete Glo­ria Hen­ry fired in a sec­ond-half hat-trick to in­spire the girls from the Hill to a 4-2 de­feat of the reign­ing Na­tion­al Sec­ondary Schools Girls Foot­ball League and In­ter-Col cham­pi­ons to lift the Su­per Cup.

Sig­nal Hill took the lead in the 18th minute through cap­tain Janae Cord­ner, but Pleas­antville Sec­ondary drew lev­el in the 31st minute when Niki­ta Go­sine, the two-time reign­ing SS­FL ‘Girls Play­er of the Year’, earned and then con­vert­ed a penal­ty as both teams went in 1-1 at the end of the first 40-minute half.

In the sec­ond-half, Hen­ry, who was in­tro­duced as a sub­sti­tute, stole the spot­light for Sig­nal Hill with a quick brace in the 56th and 57th min­utes for a 3-1 cush­ion be­fore Go­sine scored again from the penal­ty spot to bring her team back with­in one goal at 3-2.

How­ev­er, with 11 min­utes left in the match, Hen­ry, who is al­so a track and field ath­lete, scored her third of the match to re­store a two-goal lead. Sig­nal Hill main­tained that ad­van­tage un­til the fi­nal whis­tle to se­cure the tro­phy and brag­ging rights against their ri­vals, with whom they shared the na­tion­al Girls’ Big-Five crown af­ter the 2025 fi­nal was not played due to a lack of flights be­tween the two is­lands.

This year’s 17-team Boys’ SporTT SS­FL Pre­mier­ship com­pe­ti­tion, held in mem­o­ry of the late SS­FL Gen­er­al Sec­re­tary Aza­ad Mo­hammed-Khan, kicks off with a clash of To­ba­go teams, Spey­side Sec­ondary and Sig­nal Hill Sec­ondary, to­day at the Shaw Park Sport­ing Com­plex, in Scar­bor­ough, from 3.40 pm.

The match is a round 14 fix­ture that has been brought for­ward from Sat­ur­day, Oc­to­ber 31, due to the To­ba­go Car­ni­val cel­e­bra­tions, which will be in full swing at the end of next month.

Mean­while, af­ter hav­ing a bye in round one, reign­ing cham­pi­ons Na­pari­ma Col­lege will kick off the de­fence of their ti­tle at their Lewis Street, San Fer­nan­do, home ground, host­ing Trin­i­ty Col­lege, Mo­ka, on Sep­tem­ber 19, in round two.
