Following the thrilling conclusion of the zonal competitions, the stage is now set for the pinnacle of secondary school basketball in T&T.
The National Secondary Schools Basketball Championships are primed to ignite the courts at the Maloney Indoor Sporting Complex from Thursday to Saturday (March 20-23) hosted by the T&T Secondary Schools Basketball League.
On show will be Fatima College, Trinity East, Scarborough Secondary, Bishop's High School, Signal Hill, Presentation College San Fernando, Chaguanas North Secondary, Holy Name Convent, and Fyzabad Secondary, who clinched their spots in the national showdown after securing victory in their respective age categories at the zonal level.
Fatima, reigning champions in the Under-15 and U-17 divisions from last season, seek to extend their dominance with an undefeated streak in the zonal rounds. However, formidable challengers like Trinity East, Chaguanas North, and Bishop's High are determined to stake their claim for the championship title with impressive performances throughout this year's campaign.
In the fiercely contested U-17 category, the competition promises to be intense as top young talents from across the nation showcase their skills on the court. Schools include Holy Cross College, Bishop's High School, and Fatima.
Meanwhile, in the U-20 division, defending champion Bishop's High will not be in the running for the 2024 competition as Signal Hill emerged as a formidable force from Tobago after securing the zonal title in a nail-biting encounter.
The Open girls' division is set to captivate audiences with Bishop's High representing Tobago, Holy Name Convent of the North Zone, seeking redemption as 2023 runners-up, Fyzbad Secondary representing the South Central Zone, and Five Rivers Secondary standing as the lone representative from the East.
Matches are scheduled to jump off at 9 am today and will continue until Saturday, promising fans three days of exhilarating basketball showdowns.
