T&T Jadian Neaves was 43rd of 60 competitors in the 31.2 kilometres Under-23 men's time trial when the UCI World Road Cycling Championships continued in Kigali, Rwanda, Monday (September 22).
The race began at the Kigali BK Arena and ended at Kigali Convention Centre, with the 19-year-old Neaves finishing in 45 minutes, 38.69 seconds, well adrift of Sweden's Jakob Soderqvist who rode away with the gold medal with a time of 38 minutes, 24.43 seconds followed by New Zealand's Nate Pringle who got silver in 39 minutes, 28.39 seconds, and France's Maxime Decomble in 39 minutes, 28.56 seconds.
Neaves is expected to return to action on Friday in the men's U-23 road race over a distance of 164.6 km, while compatriot Teniel Campbell will contest the women's elite road race, a day later, over the same distance.
On Sunday, the 27-year-old Campbell placed 23rd from a field of 44 cyclists in the women’s Elite individual time trial contested over the same 31.2 km course in 48 minutes, 25.09 seconds, finishing five minutes, 15.75 seconds behind the gold medal winner, Marlen Reusser of Switzerland, who took gold in 43:09.34 with Holland’s Anna Van Der Breggen taking the silver medal in 44:01.23 and her countrywoman Demi Vollering, the silver in 44:14.07.
Rwanda is hosting the UCI Road World Championships for the first time, with the capital of Rwanda, Kigali, providing the stage for this historic week of racing ending September 28.
