KELVIN 'N'
The Harriram Gobin trained filly Nuclear Power, showed her class at Santa Rosa Park, Arima on Saturday when she won the feature event over 1,200 metres for horses rated 80 and Over impressively by 1 3/4 lengths from Whisper Light the 2018 Stewards Cup winner.
Punters made the Shivam Maharaj owned filly the 4-5 favourite and she obliged in style under leading apprentice Kimal Santo.
The race lost some of its flavours when the John O'Brien trained filly Pauseforacoors which was the second favourite refused to enter the staring stall leaving six horses to contest the feature.
When the starter sent the six runners on their way Whisper Light was the first to show but he was quickly passed by Skylar with Princess Sophia tracking in third. These were followed by Valorous, Nuclear Power and Master of War.
Going to the far turn Skylar was showing her rivals a clean pair of heels as she opened a three-length gap on Princess Sophia and Whisper Light. It was here that Santo asked the Gold Cup winner to close in on the leaders and she reduced the gap on the leaders.
Coming to the corner Razack sent Skylar for home and she opened a five-length gap on Whisper Light and Nuclear Power which was now being produced with her run.
Inside the final 200 metres, Skylar led but only on sufferance as Nuclear Power cruised up to her and then blew away from the filly for a very easy victory in the time of 1:11..3. Whisper Light showed a return to form with a staying-on second with Skylar in third. Valorous ran on when it was all over for fourth.
Riding honours for the day fell to apprentice Kimal Santo who rode two winners in Nuclear Power and Chinta. Training honours for the day went to Chester Roberts who saddled two winners in Khaleesi and Settled D Account.
