I am siding with the John O'Brien trained three-year-old Early Bird to return to winning ways in Saturday's feature event over 1,200 metres on the main track at Santa Rosa Park, Arima.
Early Bird, who has been in great form, may have been stretched in his last two starts and the return to 1,200m could prove a winning one today. Early Bird will no doubt have competition for the early lead from stablemate Princess Sophia and the Glenn Mendez trained Skylar.
However, once they don't go too fast up front and set the race up for a closer like Magical Victory or Desert Dancer, my vote goes to the Early Bird.
My selection will be ridden by the in-form Brian Boodramsing, who leads the jockeys' standings and in receipt of five kilos from Skylar, could be very difficult to beat.
O'Brien has the talented and in-form Princess Sophia and the talented Desert Dancer engaged.
Princess Sophia will be ridden by Kerron Khelawan and the filly will tote the joint top-weight with Magical Victory from the Michael Carew (Jnr) barn. Today, she will have to be at her best to win.
Should the speedy trio of Early Bird, Princess Sophia and Skylar cut each other's throat early on, then Desert Dancer or Magical Victory could well get up to win the major portion of prize money in the $41,225 purse event.
