To­day will see the?60th run­ning of the 1,200-me­tre Stew­ards Cup at San­ta Rosa Park, which will ush­er in the Christ­mas meet­ing of the Ari­ma Race Club and I ex­pect cham­pi­on train­er Glenn Mendez to walk down Black­stone Street. The event, which has at­tract­ed 14 run­ners and car­ries the largest purse, $150,000, ever of­fered?to the win­ner of the sprint cham­pi­onship of the South Caribbean.?

Storm Street, win­ner of this event for the past two years, is not in the line up and this paves the way for Black­stone Street and Wilmer Galviz to snatch vic­to­ry. Wilmer Galviz, who does not come to Trinidad for noth­ing, knows that it will take a very good horse to beat him. How­ev­er, cham­pi­on train­er, Glenn Mendez looks to have the aces up his sleeve with the trio of Black­stone Street, Mu­sic Mae­stro and Cac­tus Amour.

Black­stone Street gal­loped 600 me­tres in 33 sec­onds. That says it all and with Galviz in the sad­dle, that is mon­ey in the bank. I ex­pect the ear­ly favourite Black­stone Street to pre­vail at the main ex­pense of his sta­ble­mate, Cac­tus Amour and the speedy Sweet Alex, which has been brought along specif­i­cal­ly, with this race in mind.

The John O'Brien trained sped­ster will, no doubt, be ex­pect­ed to go from gate to wire for for­mer cham­pi­on jock­ey, Nela Mo­hammed and will run a big race. Post time for the Ari­ma Race Club's Day 41 eight race card is 12.20 pm.
