Josiah Parag, Jada Chatoor and Nikoli Blackman yesterday collected their awards the award presentation on Friday in the lobby of the Aquatic Centre, Couva, for their outstanding performances in the Subway Maracas Open Water Classic, last weekend.
Parag, 18, won the 5,000 metres distance event in a gruelling race, winning in one hour, ten minutes and 26 seconds. The national swimmer finished ahead of another national swimmer, 13-year-old Nikoli Blackman, 13, who was second in 1:10.43. Yet another T&T swimmer Zarek Wilson placed third in 1:13.39.
Jada Chatoor, the winner of the women's version of the race, was also present to collect her trophy from Subway’s vice president Devon Oudit. Chatoor won the race in a time of 1:14:55.60. Second was Dominique Nurse-Allen (1:17:26) and third, Shania David (1:17:32). Some 22 swimmers, 17 men and five women, completed the event.
Blackman heard his name called for a second time on the night as he was the winner of the 3,000m distance. He clocked 44.04 to place ahead of John Littlepage, who clocked 44.08 for second and third was Obadyah Ince in 44.04.
Zoe Anthony won the women's race in 48.54 with Gabriella Acosta second in 49.22 and Terri Yates (50:22) in third place.
