Three different players were on target as Queen’s Park Cricket Club (QPCC) whipped defending T&T Premier Football League Tier II Division One champions Defence Force 3-1 to move into a share of the top spot with T&T Police at the Defence Force Reserve Ground in Macqueripe, Chaguaramas, on Saturday (April 11).
The visitors took the lead in the eighth minute through Giovanni Hospedales, but four minutes later Keilon Burnett-Acevaro got the Army/Coast Guard combination back on level terms, only for Saleem Henry to restore QPCC’s advantage eight minutes before the half-time whistle.
Six minutes after the restart, Kaylon Williams added the third item for QPCC, after which they held firm to secure the win, their eighth of the season from 11 matches, to move to 25 points, only behind T&T Police FC on goal difference at the top of the table, while Defence Force stayed second from bottom of the ten-club standing with eight points, two more than Central Soccer World FC, with a match in hand.
Over at the Black Rock Recreation Ground in Courland, Tobago, Police FC and fourth-placed Carnbee/Mt Pleasant shared the spoils in a 2-2 draw.
For Carnbee/Mt Pleasant, Darreon Moses opened the scoring in the 29th minute before Kareem ‘Scooby’ Freitas (35th penalty) and Isaiah Pryce (36th) netted in quick succession to give the Lawmen the lead, only for Nave Roach to get the equaliser for the host in the 64th.
In another key encounter, Kenton James found the target in the 64th minute, and Josiah Shade, in the 66th, from the penalty spot for Malabr Young Stars to secure a come-from-behind 2-1 win against former champions Harlem Strikers, who had taken a 23rd-minute lead via Roshaun Doobay at the Ancil Elock Ground in Caroni.
Elsewhere, Palo Seco Union Hall edged Matura ReUnited 1-0, and the University of T&T (UTT) outplayed Central Soccer World (CSW) 3-1.
