T&T’s top-ranked player Aaron Raghoonanan cued his way to first place in Wednesday's Open 10-ball Tournament, the first competition in a series during the tour of the Guyana national team. A nine-man Guyana representative team is currently in T&T for a series organised by the Billiards Sports Organisation of T&T (BSOTT).
Raghoonanan beat his National Pool League (NPL) United Stars teammate Ravi Goorah in the final to take top honours in the tournament played at Golden Arches II in Curepe which saw some 40 players taking part. Adrian Bajnath of Headquarters placed third while Pit ‘N’ Pub’s Carlos Poyer finished fourth.
Guyana was scheduled to play the national team in a Mosconi-style match Friday night and Saturay at Pit ‘N’ Pub and Golden Arches Sports Bars, respectively.
The visitors, led by Ryan Baksh, warmed up for the International team fixtures with a hard-fought 9-8 win against an NPL All Star team on Thursday night at Pit ‘N’ Pub. That encounter came down to the wire and with scores tied at eight, it took a decider between the pair of Sean De Souza and Kamil Hussain and All Stars captain Nazim Mohammed and Anil Ramadhar, which the Guyanese won in three straight frames.
A national youth team will also get a chance at some international competition with a similar team meeting with Guyana tonight (Saturday).
After their four nights in Trinidad, the Guyanese will travel to the sister isle to take on a Tobago representative team, led by Allan James.
In a release, BSOTT thanked all who contributed to making the tour happen and is looking forward to hosting more teams from the region.
