Ter­minix La Hor­quet­ta Rangers will have the chance to go sec­ond at home to Her­itage Pe­tro­le­um Point Fortin Civic when ac­tion in Tier I of the T&T Pre­mier Foot­ball League (TTPFL) re­sumed on Sat­ur­day af­ter a vi­brant Car­ni­val sea­son.

The match will be the open­ing clash of a dou­ble­head­er at the Phase II Recre­ation Ground, La Hor­quet­ta, kick­ing off at 6 pm. Lat­er, Cen­tral FC plays Prison Ser­vices FC at 8.10 pm.

Rangers went to the Car­ni­val break in the fourth po­si­tion on 19 points af­ter a vic­to­ry over 2-0 vic­to­ry over Tiger Tanks Club San­do that pushed them to 19 points, a mere six points adrift of lead­ers AC Port-of-Spain (25 points) who will take the field to­mor­row in a clash with Mor­vant Cale­do­nia Unit­ed in the fea­ture match of a dou­ble­head­er at the Ari­ma Velo­drome at 7.10 pm.

In the open­ing match which will kick-off at 5 pm, sec­ond-placed Mis­cel­la­neous Po­lice FC will take on Ea­gles FC.

A vic­to­ry for Rangers will put them with­in three points of the lead­ers on 22 points in the sec­ond po­si­tion, how­ev­er, they will have to keep their fin­gers crossed that the Cunu­pia-based Ea­gles can up­set the “Law­men” when the teams square off to­mor­row.

In the sec­ond match to­day, Cen­tral FC, win­less af­ter ten match­es to date will be hop­ing to break the jinx for their first three points of the sea­son. The Cen­tral Sharks are coached by for­mer na­tion­al de­fend­er Shur­land David, who may be­lieve that his in­ex­pe­ri­enced bunch has been show­ing much-need­ed progress, but their on­ly con­cern has been the points to show for it.

On the oth­er hand, the prison of­fi­cers may feel com­fort­ed with a game that should guar­an­tee them max­i­mum points. Should this hap­pen, the Pris­ons team, with four wins in ten match­es that have left them in the sev­enth po­si­tion with 12 points, will climb to the sixth po­si­tion ahead of Point Fortin Civic who are on 13 points.

De­fence Force’s Brent Sam and AC Port-of-Spain’s Isa­iah Lea­cock have emerged as joint lead­ers on the TTPFL’s goalscor­ing list, lead­ing the way with sev­en goals each. Club San­do’s Re­al Gill, Ea­gles’ Kevon Wood­ley and 1976 FC Phoenix’ Mick­aeel Gor­don all trail the top strik­ers with six goals apiece.
