T&T Red Force will continue its campaign in the Cricket West Indies (CWI) Super50 Tournament today, when it comes up against the Windies B team in the team's seventh-round match at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy in Tarouba, San Fernando from 11 am.
Denesh Ramdin’s men humbled the defending champions Windwards Volcanoes on Wednesday to book a place in the semi-finals of the 2018 event that is carded for next week in Barbados. The Red Force bowled out the Windwards for just 78 runs and then rushed to victory at 79 for three in 9.4 overs to claim a resounding victory and a bonus point.
That point has taken them to 23 points in the tournament after six matches, with five wins and one loss. They are second behind Guyana who is on 25 points from a similar 5-1 record. Today, Guyana will play against the Windwards Volcanoes at the Queen’s Park Oval, also at 11 am.
Manager of the T&T Red Force Roland Sampath has made it clear that all the members of his team that were selected for the Windies tour of India, are available to play for the franchise until the tournament ends. “All the players are available for the Red Force. Although we have some guys including the captain selected for the Windies T20 team to go India, they will only leave when this Super50 ends. We have their services and they are committed to the cause. The players want to win this title badly for T&T and they are very focused on that.
“There are some players who are still trying to find their best form and we back them totally. They are quality players and will come through for us. The back end of the tournament is here and we have made it to the semi-final which is wonderful. We now look forward to ending the preliminaries strongly and hence take that momentum with us to Barbados for the final leg of the tournament.”
Guyana the other team qualifying from Group A to move to Barbados will be hoping to get the better of the Windwards who have struggled and not looked like defending champions. They have a number of young players they are budding and this has not gone down too well in terms of winning matches.
