Unbeaten T&T Red Force will be looking to continue their good run at the start of the 2019 Colonial Medical Insurance Super50 Cup today when they play against the West Indies Emerging players at the Queen's Park Oval in Port-of-Spain from 1.30 pm on Wednesday.
Both teams have eight points but the Emerging Players have played a game more than the Red Force. The local franchise has won their two matches to date (Windwards Volcanoes and Guyana Jaguars) and will be looking for a hat-trick of wins to maintain their position at the top of the standings.
Last match hero Tion Webster said yesterday that a plan is in place and it is working.
"We are working with a plan and it is good to see it coming along nicely. You can't have a perfect game, so we continue to work in practice to see how close we can get to where we would like to be. The hard work has continued and we are looking forward to winning many more matches."
Webster smashed 87 in their last match, a six-wicket win against the Guyana Amazon Warriors at the same venue, and is keen to get a crack at the West Indies Emerging bowling attack.
"I always go out there and back myself to get runs. The Oval pitch is a good one for batting and I don't want to miss out there. I am looking forward to playing many more big innings, as I was disappointed at not getting my hundred in the last game," Webster, who looked set to reach triple figures in the game before he put a sweep shot straight down a Jaguars boundary fielder's throat, said.
"My role is to go out and give the team the best start and I want to continue doing that."
The Emerging players toppled the Windwards Volcanoes in their third match on Sunday night at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy, with local boy Joshua Da Silva scoring an unbeaten, maiden List A century.
Batting first, Da Silva scored an unbeaten 103 as his team rattled up 261-3 off their 50 overs. Also among the runs were Roland Cato, who cracked 49 not out, Gidron Pope 50 and Justin Greaves 46. In reply, the Windwards could muster only 154 all out with 41 not out from Shane Shillingford and 34 from Kerron Cottoy. Opening bowlers Keon Harding 4/45 and Kevin Sinclair 3/19 did the damage.
