Heavy rains throughout the day washed out both matches in the seventh round of the CWI Super50 Tournament cricket series scheduled for the Brian Lara Cricket Academy in Tarouba, San Fernando yesterday.
The T&T Red Force and Windies B team players never got to touch the ground as rain greeted them when they arrived at the venue and also waved them goodbye around 1 pm when the game was officially called off by the match officials. Match referee Michael Ragoonath explained that the reason for calling play early was because the rain never stopped and also with flooding in many parts of the country, the player's safety was put first. “With the current videos we are getting of flood all over the country we want to make sure that the players get back to the hotel safely and hence we have called off the play early.”
Around midday, the outfield could not have taken any more rain and it became a pool of water. Both teams will get two points for the washout games which puts the T&T Red Force on 25 points after seven games.
Guyana still leads the standings going into the final round tomorrow. Guyana also got two points from its rained off game at the Queen’s Park Oval against the Windwards yesterday. The Guyanese team has a total of 27 points with one match to play. Play did start at the Oval but with Guyana batting one without loss, it was called off because the rain came back.
