T&T's World bronze medallist, Jereem "The Dream" Richards, will take on 200 metres world number one sprinter Noah Lyles on Thursday at the Golden Gala Pietro Mennea in Rome, Italy.
Lyles, who dipped under 19.70 seconds four times last year, is part of a sensational cast of athletes that the T&T sprinter will race against at the fourth stop of the IAAF Diamond League.
The others include Italian 100m record holder Filippo Tortu, current world best 400m sprinter Michael Norman, European champion Ramil Guliyev from Turkey, Colombia’s Bernardo Baloyes, world 4x100 champion Nethaneal Mitchell Blake from Great Britain, Ecuador’s Alex Quinonez and Switzerland’s Alex Wilson.
On the weekend, T&T's Khalifa St Fort had two second-place finishes at the Jacksonville Athletics Club (JAC) Open at the Bolles High School Track in Jacksonville, Florida.
In the women's 100 metres, the T&T sprinter was bested by her Born 2 Do It Track Club teammate Jamaica’s Briana Williams, who became the fastest junior in her country’s history after her run.
St Fort stopped the clock in 11.65 to finish a distant second but well ahead of Devynne Charlton who failed to break 11 seconds, finishing in 12.07.
Williams, running in section one of two, won in 11.10 seconds, bettering Kiara Grant's national junior record of 11.11, done in May.
St Fort, who is coached by T&T's former star sprinter Ato Boldon, also faced the starter in the 200m and was again runner-up with a time of 23.77 to Williams, who crossed in a winning 22.95. In third place was Tamar Accius (Unattached) in 24.71.
Another T&T sprinter Semoy Hackett was also in action on Saturday at the Putbos Memorial Leon Buyle, Oordegem in Belgium. However, she was disqualified in the women's 100m.
This followed up her second-place finish in the 200m, clocking 23.78 at the Meeting International Citta di Savona, Savona in Italy, last Wednesday.
In Finland on Thursday at the Kuortane Games, Keshorn Walcott struck gold in the men's javelin event with his best throw measuring 81.68 metres.
