Chris Richards Jr leads the field after three days of the Trinidad and Tobago Golf Association National Trials, which enters its final day Saturday at the Chaguaramas Golf Course.
Richards Jr delivered a consistent 70 on Friday’s third day at the St Andrews Golf Course in Moka, Maraval, continuing to lower his scores from the two previous rounds. On the opening day of the four-day tournament at Millennium Lakes in Trincity, Richards Jr began with a 72, which proved sufficient to propel him to the top of the leaderboard. Liam Bryden’s 75 earned him the runner-up position on day one, with Zico Correia in third.
The trio has been almost inseparable during days two and three at Moka. Still, Richards, who carded a 71 on day two, dipped a shot lower on the third day with a 70 for a combined score of 213. He now leads Bryden by 12 shots as national selectors focus on the selection of a national team for future tournaments.
Bryden had an excellent second day, shooting a 69, but stumbled yesterday with a gross 81 for a combined total of 225. Zico Correia secured third place overall after a third-day 75 propelled him to a total of 232. Ethan Collier holds fourth place with rounds of 75, 81, and 79, while Wayne Baptiste (82, 76, 78)sits in the fifth spot entering the final day.
Players will tee off at staggered times this morning. Action begins at 9 am with the twosome of Tori De Freitas-Baptiste and Isabella Ramdeen. Meanwhile, the final quartet of Richards Jr, Correia, Ross Ramkissoon, and Baptiste is scheduled to tee off at 9.40 am.
