ST JOHN’S, Antigua – Guyana Amazon Warriors debutant Quentin Sampson has been named the Breakout Player of the 2025 Republic Bank Caribbean Premier League (CPL), earning official accolades from Cricket West Indies for a campaign that announced his arrival on the big stage.
The award caps a remarkable first season for Sampson, who distinguished himself in a tournament brimming with emerging talent.
The 2025 CPL, which ran from August 14 to September 21, served as a perfect platform for graduates of the CWI Breakout League, with several young players seizing their opportunity.
St Lucia Kings’ Ackeem Auguste staked a strong claim with a fluent 73, while St Kitts & Nevis Patriots spinner Navin Bidaisee impressed, snaring 7 wickets.
Jediah Blades, Nathan Edward, and Karima Gore also delivered notable performances that highlighted the region’s deepening talent pool.
However, it was Sampson’s consistent and match-winning impact that ultimately set him apart. In just eight matches, the right-hander amassed 241 runs at a formidable average of 40.16 and an explosive strike rate of 153.
His season was highlighted by a career-best 76, a knock that steered the Warriors to a crucial victory and showcased a temperament beyond his years.
Miles Bascombe, CWI Director of Cricket, praised the development on display. “Quentin’s performances, as well as those of others this season, are both pleasing and encouraging for West Indies Cricket,” Bascombe said. “They have shown that our emerging players can step up and deliver when they are given the opportunity.”
