T&T's Victoria Seenath finished in second in the Ladies' Division in the Barbados Golf Open at the Barbados Golf Club in Durants, Barbados, on the weekend.
Seenath, the top local female golfer, returned a score after three rounds of play of 233.
The Pointe-a-Pierre club member ended eight strokes behind the winner, Marielle Young of Barbados, who retained her crown with 225.
Seenath opened with 78 in Round One on Friday, five shy of Young's first day score of 73. The San Fernando-native then produced her best score of 73, one over par, on Saturday to tally 151 and close the gap on the leader, who hit 74.
However, in the third and final round on Sunday, Seenath could only muster 82 as her rival coped best with the windy conditions to hit 76 and gross 225, to end the three days of play nine over par. Young's compatriot Neffertari Alleyne was third (248) with another T&T player, Tori De Freitas-Baptiste, in sixth with 267 (95, 86, 86).
Seenath and De Freitas are preparing for the defence of their Caribbean Four Ball Championships Ladies 25 plus title in Montego Bay, Jamaica, from October 10-12. Seenath told Guardian Media Sports she was pleased with her second round score of 73.
"I hit a lot more greens and putts. However, on the last day, I missed some putts and had to cope with more winds," Seenath said, adding that she was just happy to get in some play. "It was good competition. (I just wanted) to compete and compete over three days."
Seenath collected the Net Prize with a score of 215 ahead of Alleyne (224) and another Barbadian Kaira Wilson (225).
Choon Singh had to settle for third spot in the Men's Second Flight with 274 (93, 91, 90) with another T&T player, Pointe-a-Pierre's Zaid Khan in fourth (303-99, 100, 104). The two were denied by the Barbadian pair of Connor Proudfoot (264-91, 87, 86) and Cyrus Cummings (270 (91, 91, 88). Singh also collected the prize for the third Net score (229).
Brian Fares missed out on a top-three finish in the men's First Flight, finishing in fourth. The Millennium Golf Club member had a score of 250 (82, 82, 86) as Barbadian Joshua Sambrano secured the top spot with 239 (77, 79, 83) ahead of Michael Williams of St Kitts & Nevis 241 (83, 80, 78) and another host country golfer, Roger Bryan (246-84, 78, 84). Fares did have the consolation of returning to T&T with the top net prize with 220.
Daniel Jacob (258-90, 82, 86) and Shammi Seepersad (272-90, 84, 87) were eighth and ninth in the Super Seniors with Tobagonian Namdeo Boodram in 15th (288-91, 98, 99).
Bobby Edghill ensured the Championship title stayed in Barbados with 214 (70, 70, 74). Edghill edged out the 2024 winner Simon Proverds (216-74, 69, 73) with Nicholas Phillip in third (220-75, 70, 75) in a Barbados sweep of the top three places.
