BIG South East Port-of-Spain (SEPoS) enjoyed an unbeaten weekend in the T&T Volleyball Federation (TTVF) Super League ‘A’ Division as their men and women teams combined for three wins from three matches when competition served off at the National Cycling Centre in Balmain, Couva last weekend (April 11-12).
In the Men’s Division, SEPoS overcame a tough test from Police in four sets, 24-26, 25-17, 25-16, 25-21 while in the Women’s Division, SEPoS overcame the experienced CC10, also in come-from-behind fashion in five sets, 17-25, 25-21, 25-19, 17-25, 17-15.
Then on Sunday, SEPoS women had a much easier outing as they eased past debutants, Nothing But Success (NBS) 25-20, 25-19, 25-17.
A day earlier, newcomers NBS, is a mirror image of the national team that earned bronze at last year’s Caribbean Under-17 Championship in Jamaica began with a win over San Fernando-based JMVP 25-16, 25-14, 21-25, 25-14 and Police humbled Karasu 25-17, 26-24, 25-27, 25-13 while JMVP rebounded on Sunday to top Karasu 25-23, 25-23, 25-17 in a closely fought match-up
And in the other men’s Division match-ups. Police rallied past Glamorgan 13-25, 25-16, 25-21, 25-21; JMVP humbled DEfence Force 25-22, 25-17, 25-17 and Southern United Volleyball Academy also won against Glamorgan 25-19, 12-25, 16-25, 25-21, 15-12.
This year’s men’s competition comprises nine clubs inclusive of JMVP, Police, BIG SEPoS, Southern United Volleyball Academy, Glamorgan, Defence Force, Challengers, Tobago and Zenith and at the end of their one round of round-robin matches, the top two teams will qualify directly to the semifinals while positions three to six will contest cross-over quarterfinals to determine the remaining two semifinalists.
And in the women’s competition, BIG SEPoS, JMVP, Police, Nothing But Success (NBS), CC10 and Karasu will compete in two rounds of round-robin matches, following which the top four teams will qualify to the semifinals.
