Swimmer Dylan Carter claimed the silver medal in the final of the men's 50-metre butterfly event at the FINA Swimming World Cup in Berlin, Germany Sunday afternoon.
He shared the silver medal courtesy of a joint second-place finish with the USA's Michael Andrew.
The medal added to the bronze medal he won the day before in the final of the 100-metre freestyle in a time of 48.97 seconds. Both the 27-year-old Carter in lane one and Andrew in lane five, were in good form yesterday for their silver medal in a time of 23.17 seconds at the Europa Sports Park at the SSE Arena, which came after both had the same reaction time of 0.60.
They were bettered only by Ben Armbruster of Australia, who stormed home after just 23.08 seconds of being in the pool. Hungary's Szebasztian Szabo was fourth overall, touching the wall at 23.25 seconds, despite having a faster reaction time at the start than Carter and Andrew.
From as early as just about 3.30 am yesterday morning, Carter made his intentions known in the heats, where he finished second in a time of 23.67 seconds in heat five for a place in the final. Armbruster claimed the top spot in that heat by posting a time of 23.45 seconds. Andrew on the other hand was the winner of heat six in 23.27, while Isaac Cooper, the eventual fifth-place finisher in the final, had beaten Andrew for the top spot in that heat (six).
